Holding the ability to create from one’s skills is freedom which drives us to improve our capabilities and confidence further. It drives us every day to find new challenges to test these abilities and the harder they stretch us the more we can grow exponentially. Experience is extremely valuable when combined with serendipity, along a pathway of building a fulfilling life with meaning and purpose.
Over the years I’ve become happiest when I’m in my own company usually in my workshop, it’s my sanctuary of concentration. There are others like me of course but given the desire for self-reliance, our paths seldom cross.
So why is the title of this topic focused on nonconformity?
Lack of self-esteem and indeed inner confidence brings thoughts of uncertainty or insecurities. I can say with certainty from experience the first point of call to eradicate these feelings is to find something that interests you and work hard to be good at it. Having a good work ethic is a very good start with any self-improvement and adopting a dogged attitude to push past the basics to the better side of what these new abilities bring is a mindset. Nothing good in life is easy to obtain and anything easy to obtain in life is purely superficial and meaningless.
Adding meaning and purpose to one’s life, rather than accepting today as our future is an acceptance that change is good. Change takes effort and purpose is the fuel!
As a fellow Nonconformist, I have never taken the easy path in life, often steering away from certainty, security, and comfort for the choice of freedom, this is a choice by design to live life to its fullest with the enrichment of knowledge, self-reliance & multiple skills.
It also explains why in so many ways ‘in the detail’ is so important in the things I do.
I suppose It comes back to that old question: “What is the meaning of life?” What is our destiny, legacy, and purpose? We all have different perspectives on life mainly influenced by our upbringing. I guess the question of meaning gets stronger as I age, especially at a time in life when we lose loved ones and others whose lives served little purpose.
Being true to ourselves requires exploring our potential and advancing our capabilities to bring a fulfilling life that is beyond what corporations and governments of this world are capable of providing.
Tip: Carbon credits will limit many dependent people in the future, this is why the power companies are so keen to implement smart meters and this is just for starters. Owning quality power-free hand tools and improving your capability to fix things will ensure you can’t be as restricted as others ruled by societal conformity this eco-movement could bring.
