Nice 19th century ultimatum brace by A Mathieson & sons from the early Liverpool period, stamped metallic frame patent brace.
It’s not without its problems as the spring for the bit retainer has stopped working it has probably deteriorated over the years and there are a couple of broken heads on the screws probably when someone tried to repair the spring. The joints are also slightly worn through use so there is some movement in the joints.
Other than these points there are other good points such as the overall condition including the existence of the inlaid ring in the handle and the fact its by a desirable maker.
