The Spirit and Meaning of the Highly Skilled Craftsman can lead to enlightenment that can only be achieved with one’s ability to be our own worst critic and most demanding client. As time goes by some become wiser and more accomplished according to the standards they set themselves, eventually making it easier to achieve things and allowing us to develop in new ways that enrich our lives.
Putting your heart and soul into everything you touch becomes second nature and manifests into an inner confidence in one’s purpose in life and the meaning of it. Every project big or small adds something to the pot, and every new adventure and challenge successfully achieved adds to the side dishes that complement the main course.
If we do enough of it in our lifetimes we start to see the patterns and concepts of everything that surrounds us that creates the world we live in. All I can say is it’s like the once-heavy curtain wears thinner until it becomes almost transparent with an ever-increasing glow from the sunshine beyond.
Our lives are all different and we all start from different places with different challenges but it’s what we learn along the road that defines age from wisdom. Success is measured in many ways and interpreting this can only come from our inner sanctum of spiritual calm it brings.
The past 10 years building Tooltique has given me the one thing that I have always needed more than anything and that is to find the space for further learning and to make a ‘quiet living’. The long hours are a sacrifice I’ve been willing to make as a result without any regrets.
I guess after all these years what it has done for my life is bring me to a place of reflection to better understand achievements and what purpose they serve in the years ahead, after all a life without purpose is one of existence.
All too often in this new world under construction, we see failure, lack of responsibility, deceit, deception, lies, and dishonesty which can be harrowing and unsettling. At the heart of it are the seven deadly sins of pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth encouraged by those who need people to lose touch with what is good in the world by destroying the real meaning of value and Humility.
Regardless of the narrative being spun from various channels, things aren’t always what they seem and most people are normally inherently good although sometimes misled.
Those who read my blogs will know I’m web savvy, but when Web 2.0 or Social Media was first created I said it was the perfect tool to cause divisions and promote narcissism, the later algorithms for marketing purposes have proved to create echo chambers of self-righteousness.
Genuine humility involves having an accurate opinion of oneself and expressing oneself modestly as situations demand, with clear goal orientation, openness, broad-mindedness, and a non-imposing mentality.
We can only affect the small circle around us which can create ever-expanding circles if humility and goodness are presented in a meaningful way by asking the people you know this question.
If you were able to do one good deed for the world, what would you do?
Generosity doesn’t have to hold a price tag and any good deed regardless of the size benefits humanity, regardless of those who seek to undermine the genuine good with false virtues in the world.
If we hold value in what we do in life and have the passion to produce our best work and it brings something of beauty, purpose, and value that adds special things into the world with a genuine heart & soul, often created with blood and tears, we know we contributed something worthwhile & meaningful.
It adds great comfort to oneself knowing once we pass through this life there will be many things we have created and had direct involvement in, knowing that they will continue to positively benefit others once we are no longer here, meanwhile, the world keeps turning.
Last week I sold a moulding plane that was approx 300 years old, absolutely without question handmade by George Carpenter, this man’s legacy lives on, so what’s going to be your stamp on the world?
