Exceptional and Rare to find this in the UK but its a D R Barton Drawknife with a clever shaped blade that allows the tool to be used either way up effectively making this two tools in one. There is loads of life in it yet. The blade measures 10″ long has been sharpened & honed ready for use. Grab it whilst you can it may be some time before you see another.
The blade is marked with D. R. BARTON 1832 ROCHESTER N.Y. stamp. The lower part of the stamp is missing, but the D.R. BARTON name is still very clear, with the top of the numbers 1832 showing. The David R. Barton and his sons were involved in several tool companies between 1832 and 1880. Many of the older draw knives made by D.R. Barton are stamped with the D.R. Barton Logo. Tool Co. or Rochester, NY as is seen in the image above.
