Starting the new year brings fresh new ideas, goals and planning ahead will make those goals more likely. On a completely different subject from tools but worthy of consideration for those who enjoy a hobby or work from home whilst using tools, is there is a need for creating an environment that enhances that experience? Getting the right set up will increase the enjoyment, enhance work hours and thoroughly transform what you can do and how you do it.
A good work space is very much an essential tool of the job which is often under estimated or given much thought to until the right time to do it is upon us.
Did you know that up to 50% of your garden can house a garden shed (I’m not suggesting this size may I add), some restrictions apply but that could be one big workshop in the most convenient location to yourself, limited only by height which wouldn’t hinder most people working with their hands.
Many people, when they think of a shed automatically think of a wooden structure but this has its limitations when creating larger sheds however for most hobbyist’s there are many adequate off the shelf options. A good timber shed doesn’t have to be ordinary or be an off the shelf product but can many different aesthetic qualities to the surrounding property. For the more adventurous why not design something unique that enhances your property, a summer project that will ensure you will get real value from all year round, especially if you design it with insulation included.
It is possible to create a whole range of ideas but let me take you into another world that redefines what is possible with a good shed.
If you have read our ‘about us’ page you will be aware that my career involved building much bigger metal structures, build & design was very much part of that, the methods and materials used created these buildings have properties timber structures cannot replicate without increasing the bulk materials needed. The commercial building sector has long championed superior Eco qualities and when manipulated correctly can enhance any environment, all be it with more modern designs.
When it comes to large workshops or garden buildings I built a ‘mother of all sheds’ last year for a customer which could only be described as incredible. At 26 metres long x 6 metres deep and with an all clear open span it was highly efficient thermally to allow the use of underground heating with solar and a air-source heat pump. The use of Bi-folding doors to open the space up to the full summer sunshine whilst given a cutting edge design to enhance the overall look to the property, it created a space that enhanced the property and its functionality.
This building was built with materials that will still be going strong in 50 years time without any rot or the need of maintenance. A Rolls Royce of all sheds and one hell of an asset that would soon pay for itself when you factor in the costs this could save a small business or the value it adds to the property.
This project was large in domestic terms and required a large garden but even for those with less space or money the possibilities are endless when you put your mind to it and the benefits are quite incredible when you consider a good shed liberates you from the restrictions wintertime brings.
This is a summer project worthy of consideration and one that if you build one will certainly not regret this time next year.
